The Iris Nebula, also designated NGC 7023, is a reflection nebula in the constellation Cepheus. It contains a young, hot stellar population that excites the surrounding gas to glow. The nebula’s characteristic bluish colour is created by the scattering of starlight by the dust particles within it. The Iris Nebula lies about 1,300 light years from Earth.
