Veil Nebula

The Veil Nebula, also known as the Cirrus Nebula, is a supernova remnant in the constellation Cygnus, about 1,470 light years from Earth. It consists of several parts, including NGC 6960 (the Witch’s Broom Nebula) and NGC 6992/6995. The nebula shows complex filaments of ionised gas created by the shockwaves of the original supernova. Particularly striking are the emission lines of H-alpha (Hα), the deep-red radiation, and of ionised oxygen (OIII), which produces a glowing blue light. These lines highlight the fine structures of the nebula. The whole nebula complex is often referred to as the “Veil Nebula”.
