M27, also known as the Dumbbell Nebula, is a planetary nebula in the constellation Vulpecula, about 1,360 light years from Earth. It has a dumbbell-shaped appearance and forms from the radiation of ionised gas emitted by a hot white dwarf, the remnant of an old star.
