Jupiter is the largest planet in the Solar System, a gas giant famous for its prominent cloud bands and the Great Red Spot. With a diameter of about 143,000 km and a mass more than twice that of all the other planets in the Solar System combined, Jupiter is a true giant. Its atmosphere consists mainly of hydrogen and helium, with traces of methane, ammonia and water vapour. Jupiter has at least 79 moons, including the four large Galilean moons: Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto.
