M81 & M82

The following image uses the same data as the one from 25.01.2023, but reprocessed in February 2023. It’s nice to see what has changed in such a short time!

M81 (Bode’s Galaxy / NGC 3031) is a spiral galaxy in Ursa Major, about 12 million light years away. It is known for its spiral structure with well-defined spiral arms.

M82 (Cigar Galaxy / NGC 3034) is an irregular galaxy in Ursa Major, also about 12 million light years away. It is a starburst galaxy known for its cigar shape and intense star formation.
