Messier 33, or the Triangulum Galaxy, is a spiral galaxy about 2.7 million light years away and, alongside the Andromeda Galaxy and the Milky Way, one of the largest members of the Local Group. With a diameter of around 60,000 light years, it shows finely structured spiral arms threaded with reddish Hα regions such as the vast star-forming zone NGC 604.
Thanks to its proximity and favourable orientation, images already reveal individual bright stars and star clusters within the galaxy — a rare glimpse into the stellar population of another world.
